Health & Safety

Arena Tiling takes the health and safety and well being of employees, customers, contractors, visitors and local communities alike very seriously and any other party who may be affected by its activities. To control our responsibilities we have a dedicated health and safety team headed by Ian Gray based at our headoffice.

Underneath Ian Gray we have three health and safety advisors operating on the road, these are based in the South East, Midlands, and the North of England (also covering Scotland).

At Arena we comply with all the current Health & Safety regulations, supply all our staff with the correct PPE, and our company's Health & Safety policy can be downloaded below, which details all Health & Safety procedures carried out by Arena Tiling.

Our efforts to be inclusive rather than exclusive, proactive rather than reactive, practical rather than theoretical, are having an impact on people's attitudes to safety, health and the environment. The frequency and the severity of incidents are reducing all the time and at the end of last year had fallen to 0.16 accidents for every 100,000 hours worked.

'One accident is one too many and with this in mind we will ensure everyone takes responsibility for making sure we all go home safe and well each day', Ian Gray, Group Safety, Health, Environment & Quality Officer.

In order to achieve our ultimate goal of no accidents, all regions are required to put together their own long-term plans in the form of a 'Commitment Statement' based on the Group Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) strategy and objectives & targets. These statements are communicated widely and subject to regular review at the quarterly Group performance review meetings.

Environmental

As a responsible business, Arena takes its obligations to the environment seriously and has made substantial progress in improving environmental performance.

In 2008 we trained all site staff in Environmental Awareness, ensured all Safety Managers completed the IOSH Managing Environmental Responsibilities course, and introduced recycling facilities at our offices.

For further details please download our Enviromental Policy below.

Waste Management

Arena Tiling has recognised the need to reduce construction waste as part of its on going Sustainable Development Strategy.

All our staff have been given training on a national waste management system for waste segregation and recycling following Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) and Envirowise guidance, which is supported by a specific Site Waste Management Policy designed to explain the plan and supporting procedures.

It follows the principles of waste 'Reduction, Reuse and Recycling (RRR)', and supported by training on 'The Natural Step' programme, seeks to identify innovative ways of applying these principles on each major development. This enables our operatives to fully understand the main aspects of any main contractors waste management system.
